Melanie Cable Debuts New Coloring Books!

ART Artist Melanie Cable (aka Ms. Chevious) has just released four new and unique coloring books

that feature her artwork!

"The last three years have been an explosion of creativity and productiveness for me, and before I knew it, I had a few different series of original drawings," says Cable.  "Each original was scanned in as a final lined artwork before they continued their journey as an original watercolor painting.  I ended up with three different collections that I was able to work into four separate 20-page coloring books, mainly entertaining teens and adults."

"The first two books in the series highlight my demons, and are titled “The Demons are Our Friends!”, Rounds 1 and 2.  Over 40 original drawings have illustrated my personal battles with my own demons. They express all of the grace, humor, and peace that I have earned through the years….we swim, dance, and draw together.  Many also feature other animals that mirror the demons themselves-the whimsy of the owl, the innocence of the squirrels, the awkwardness of the porcupines, and chaos of the hyenas.  The series is meant to be whimsical, but also to serve as a reminder that even in our darkest times, we are not alone.

“The Odd Collection” features sloths on rockets, owls on crutches, Cthulhu floating with his balloons, and my entire “Octopus+Skull+Fruit” series.  There’s a wide variety of spooky and macabre illustrations that are just plain fun.
Finally, I ended up making a “Nerdin’ Out Collection,” because I had been getting many requests for my stylized approach at the comic book conventions I normally frequent.  I feature many pop culture icons, such as Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and various superheroes. They are instantly recognizable and often laughable, such as Spiderman knitting a scarf on a skyscraper-or the Hulk baking cookies."
These 20-page collections are made by hand, and feature two different sizes. The 8.5”x11” and the 4”x6” travel size are both available for $10 each (includes shipping). Orders can be made through her Facebook page,

2020 Artisans Road Trip Postponed

The 2020 Artisans Road Trip will be postponed to 2021.

After reviewing a lot of feedback about Covid-19 safety recommendations, the ART Board has discussed the topic of the Coronavirus pandemic in depth and unanimously decided that we need to postpone this year's Artisans Road Trip to 2021.

BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR 2020 ART BROCHURES!  The information in the current brochure will continue to be valid for our artists and locations, the dates will just need to be changed.

We are all disappointed by the postponement, but will continue to focus on our artists and keep our Blog and Facebook page updated regularly during this time
(you can find links for both on our website -

We hope everyone has a safe and healthy year, and we look forward to seeing you all in 2021!

New Sculpture in Spencer, IA!

New public sculpture in Spencer, IA, by Artisans Road Trip artist William Lieb!

"We have just finished installing a new sculpture titled THE BEGINNING in Spencer," said Lieb. "It is located two blocks west of Grand Avenue on 11th Street in the southwest corner of North School Park." THE BEGINNING is 8’-6” tall and fabricated of 1/2” thick aluminum plate.

The sculpture marks the beginning of the hiker/biker trail heading north out of Spencer and connecting, eventually, with the trail leading south out of Milford. The primitive wheel in front metaphorically represents the beginning of the bicycle. The mother and father figures once had a wheel image on their shirts to express their passion for bicycling. Those symbols were removed and are being handed to their child, thus passing on their passion to the beginning of a new generation of bicyclists. The openings left in their shirts provide an opportunity for interested trail users to position their faces, have their photo snapped, and become a part of the sculpture. Stop by and see it the next time you are in Spencer!

2020 is our 17th year, and we are SO glad you've joined us!!

Friday, February 21, 2020

October may seem far away, but now is the time to apply to be a part of the seventeenth annual Artisans Road Trip! Applications need to be postmarked by March 1st, 2020 in order to be accepted. Why so early in the year? Quite simply, it takes a lot of time and behind the scenes work to make a great event like A.R.T. happen. Once we have our membership finalized, then we get to work on designing the brochure, updating the website, and beginning to get the word out about all of our artists!

Why should you be a part of A.R.T.? For the artisans involved, the Road Trip is a powerful networking and marketing opportunity. In addition to the October event, participating artists also benefit from year-round advertising with thousands of brochures distributed; a regularly updated blog; 24/7 website; plus group gallery exhibitions (including one this year at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji)!

All artists in the region are encouraged to apply for the upcoming 2020 season!  A.R.T. is organized and run by artists for artists.  Together we work to increase art exposure, introducing new art styles to the community and new customers to local artists.  And we want YOU to join us!  A.R.T. is always looking for new and returning artists!

For more information, links to the official A.R.T. blog and current artist biographies, as well as a downloadable .PDF of the 2020 Artist Application & Prospectus, go to If you have any questions, please contact President Haley McAndrews at
